Unfortunately, it is alleged that a hand full of companies are knowledgeably or innocently purchasing Iron ore, which may have been diluted with Oxidized Powder, which is a product known to falsely boost the FE & FEO content of Iron ore by several percent.
Because, SGS does not regularly, as part of their testing criteria, check an Iron ore cargo they are testing for the use of Oxidized Powder, if suspicion arises, it is worth requesting this additional test from your supplier. SGS can easily determine if this product has been applied to Iron ore. After SGS findings conclude that no such product has been used to alter your Iron ore, acceptance of their findings is essential to your own success. In every commerce, there are always a great deal of respectable suppliers and among them few immoral ones struggle to exist, through education and awareness, we all have the ability to distinguish between the two.
One of the warning signs that Oxidized Powder has been mixed in Iron ore is the recognition of abnormal FEO levels in Magnetite Iron ore with a lower than usual FE content. An example would be FE contents of up to 54% with FEO levels of 19% or beyond. We are not concluding that it is not quantifiable that mother nature does not earth this combination in Iron ore, but this is more rare than common. It is our personal advice that when and if you sense a cargo has been mixed with Oxidized Powder, you may want to add a clause in your agreement with your supplier stating that should such a product be detected in your Iron ore through SGS findings at the loading port, that you reserve the right to reject the cargo.
By taking this measure, this should deter any unethical suppliers from furthering their transaction with your company or raise enough awareness and encouragement in those who are uncertain of the quality of their goods compelling them to inspect the health of their cargo before committing them to their innocent customers.
It is noteworthy to mention, that an experienced Iron ore provider, can with one single glance determine if such a material is present in Iron ore.
